Slice of Life is a regular update on the latest in my life. This is where I write about my books, movies, tv, food, fashion, family or whatever subjects are on my mind that week. It’s just a little glimpse of my slice.

  • Ok, I am probably showing my age here, but I have been on the hunt for some booties that are at the same time cute AND comfortable. I have some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket, so I bought these (cute but not comfortable) and these (comfortable but not cute) and BOTH of them are going back to the store. Anyone have suggestions?
  • We are excited about the Super Bowl for once! I am a major football fan but mostly we watch College. However, given the Chiefs quarterback, Pat Mahomes, is a former Texas Tech Red Raider, we have been following the Chiefs and are so excited to cheer them on!
  • It seems like everyone is high on Disney+. We had it for awhile but then canceled it. With the exception of The Mandalorian, we just were not impressed with the content. (And really, who does NOT love baby yoda?) Anyone else feel this way?
  • I love to see youth helping and interacting with Seniors in this way.
  • Last week I released my list of most anticipated new books of 2020. I listed a book called American Dirt on this list. Since then, there has been quite a big backlash against this book in the Latinx community saying it contains and perpetuates harmful stereotypes. (If you have not heard about this, here is a good article with a response from the author.) I am still deciding if I will read this book, but I DO know that I will be seeking out books by authors that some of my friends in this community have recommended I read instead (#ownvoices). I have already picked up this book and am looking at this one too.

  1. So we have Disney + for free with Verizon for a year, but honestly haven’t turned it on after the first few weeks. The only thing we’ve actually kept watching are these Pixar shorts with Forkie from Toy Story 4 haha. I do love those movies, but we have a lot of them so we don’t really need the streaming…

  2. We are loving Disney+ but I also have 5 year old twins. Miles from Tomorrowland has been discovered and the theme song has been learned 🙂

I haven’t decided what to do about American Dirt either but looking into your other suggestions!
