Slice of Life is a regular update on the latest in my life. This is where I write about my books, movies, tv, food, fashion, family or whatever subjects are on my mind that week. It’s just a little glimpse of my slice.
- Okay, I love it when an old style comes back just as much as the next person, but this one has me scratching my head a little. Anyone else?
- This post with a collection of tweets about taking kids to the beach made me crack up (And also cry a little. We have a beach trip coming up.)
- I loved this article about JD Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye falling out of favor with today’s youth.
- Friends, it has taken me awhile to get to watching the new season of Stranger Things, but I recently did just that. And am now re-watching Season 1 and 2. My reading time has definitely suffered.
On the Blog this Week:
My Hands Down Favorite Books of Summer – there are five on the list and even though summer is still going for many people, I could not wait to share them.
I will be honest. I have largely taken the past few days off from reading in favor of Netflix (see #4 above about Stranger Things). However, I was able to start my eARC of Ann Cleeves’ new book The Long Call (NetGalley, releases Sept 3rd). So far, so characteristically good! I have read something like two chapters of Song of Achilles and wondering if it would be better for me on audio (like Circe, which I LOVED on audio.) I am going to plow forward for now.
See aforementioned notes about my binge-watching of Stranger Things and how it is taking up all of my reading time. (Sigh.)
Did Not Finish:
I was pretty disappointed in The Kiss Quotient. It was maybe a little much in terms of the steamy subject matter, but really it was the writing that wasn’t for me. I think I just need a little more than sex in my romance-y books.
Likely Up Next:
I have had The Invited on my TBR list for a very long time, and recently got a copy on sale (Kindle deals). The whole family listened to Gregor the Overlander on a recent roadtrip and everyone loved it. We have #2, Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane lined up for our next one soon.
I am still working my way through The Princess Diarist (Libby, library app) and finding it to be an extremely humorous and enjoyable experience listening to Carrie Fischer talk about filming Star Wars in London in the late 70s. She can maybe be a little long-winded at times but her self-deprecating wit completely makes up for it. RIP Carrie.
Recent TBR Additions:
I am planning on watching Good Omens soon, and I have also heard good things about the book, on which the show is based. I plan to watch, read and report back.
