Slice of Life: Weekly Book Deals, Links and Tidbits

Slice of Life is a regular update on the latest in my life. This is where I write about my books, movies, tv, food, fashion, family or whatever subjects are on my mind that week. It’s just a little glimpse of my slice. (“But you said there’d be book deals?!” Keep on scrolling down for those.)

  • So excited to watch this show (the movie is one of my all-time favorites!).
  • The creators of Stranger Things released this “teaser trailer” recently. It was effective. I feel teased (and SO happy about the return of Hopper). So ready for Season 4 to come out! (There’s no release date, creators have only said it will come out “sometime in 2020.”)
  • This past Saturday, I got to meet up with the Dallas Bookstagrammer group for our (about) quarterly lunch and book swap. These ladies are all such wonderful people, and I feel so lucky to be able to know and interact with each one of them (plus the book talk is not too shabby either).
  • Apparently, this is the latest must-have Trader Joe’s item (and Costco has them too). Anyone know what the draw is for these plants?
  • True Grit is one of my favorite books and I was so sad to hear about the death of the author, Charles Portis. Really loved this tribute (originally published in 2013).
  • Since Monday was a Holiday for President’s Day, we went to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science as a family and spent the day exploring. We have a Family Membership which I find is so worth it (especially during the summer months!).

New on the Blog

Book Review: The Thicket by Joe R. Lansdale (with book-inspired recipe for Duck Stuffed Jalapeno Peppers) – With serious vibes from books like Charles Portis’ True Grit, Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove and Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses, this compelling and well-written Texas tale was one of my favorites of 2019. Plus, a book-inspired recipe! {pin this post}

Reading Report: Mini Reviews of Recent Reads – I am still catching up on book reviews from December! Don’t miss my (short) reviews of 9 recent reads. {pin this post}

4 Books to Read if You (Think You) Hate Romance – Sarah Slusher of the pop culture blog, Really Into This, penned this guest post suggesting a few good books to reach for if you are not sure where to start in the romance genre. {pin this post}
