Slice of Life: Summer Reading Lists, Workouts and What She Reads If She Loves Catch-22…

Reaching for delicious pizza

Slice of Life is a regular update on the latest in my life. This is where I write about my books, movies, tv, food, fashion, family or whatever subjects are on my mind that week. It’s just a little glimpse of my “slice.”

  1. The weather is starting to heat up, so I am switching my runs to early morning or heading indoors and for indoor workout via YouTube (love Kristin Andrus). My hubby got me a Fitbit for Christmas, and even if I don’t have time for a run or a workout, it definitely keeps me focused on steps per day and makes me head out even if it’s just for a short mile-long walk.
  2. I have mostly been reading in spare moments this week, but I did get to watch Wine Country while folding laundry. It proves that I don’t always agree with the critics because I have seen some really bad reviews for this one. I thought it was funny and definitely will not be topping the list as a favorite movie or anything but at least was worth watching. This very much could be because of my love for Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and the others in the cast. What can I say, I am most likely biased where these ladies are concerned!
  3. I got to write a piece for She Reads! Check out my featured post: What She Reads If She Loves Catch-22 Incidentally, When You Read This by Mary Adkins will be making an appearance on my favorite books of the year (so far) list coming out sometime in June!
  4. Holy Summer Reading Guides, Batman! There are MANY awesome books lists for summer reading that have been released in the past week or so. My favorites: Sarah’s Book Shelves, Book Riot, and Modern Mrs. Darcy. Plus, I am counting down to summer with my list of thrillers to read on the beach or by the pool (link below).

On the Blog this Week:

Summer is for Thrillers #3: Downright Scary Books

Book Review: How Not to Die Alone by Richard Roper

Recipe: Italian Cannellini with Meat Sauce

Currently Reading:

I just finished this one and it is going to take me a few days to process, but I think it was a really well-done thriller that had a completely surprising twist at the end.

I am almost halfway through this one and enjoying it, but not quite sure where it is headed.

Likely Up Next:

I recently finished this one on audio. I don’t even have words for how good it was. I will be writing more about it soon, but for now all I can say is: read it immediately (I thought the audio was especially good)! Because of my Daisy Jones audio book hangover, I am only listening to podcasts right now. A few I like are:
